Sports

In the 1900s-1910s football was very popular at only a few ivy league collages but basketball still wasn’t popular. The upper class usually preferred the more expensive sports like golf, horse racing, sailing and polo. Baseball was already the most talked about sport in America. The American league was established in 1900 to rival the National league and to organize the teams. The leagues played their first world series in 1903 and Boston defeated Pittsburgh. The famous song “ Take me out to the ball game”, was first heard in 1909.

Some of the famous sports people in the 1900’s decade are Cy Young, one of the best pitchers in baseball history. Most pitchers just pitch a little bit of a game but not Cy Young, he pitched 749 games throughout his career. Cy Young’s real name isn’t Cy it is Denton. Since most pitchers don’t get an MVP award the created the Cy Young award for the best pitcher of the game. Another sport hero is Honus Wagner, the best short-stop to ever play baseball. Honus was in the hall of fame, the first five, he was also voted the second best baseball player behind Ty Cobb and Tying with Babe Ruth.

I think that this topic is important because sports revolutionized America. They did because sports are probably the most talked about thing in America. I also think that it is important because it gives people something to do.

I think that this topic changed America because we are probably the country with the best sports teams. They also changed America because they are probably the biggest thing that people do and talk about in America.
